We collect almost nothing. Here's the almost.
realbreakfast is built to work without knowing who you are. You can browse and contribute without an account. This page explains the small amount of data we do handle, where it lives, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Photos you upload. The breakfast image itself, plus the hotel and city you attach to it. Before a photo goes live we strip embedded camera metadata, including any GPS location — keeping only the date the photo was taken, so we can show when the breakfast was seen.
- An optional first name. Only if you choose to add it for credit. Leave it blank and your contribution is fully anonymous.
- A caption, if you write one. Free text you add to describe the meal.
- Aggregate, cookie-free analytics. We run a self-hosted copy of Umami to count page views and rough, country-level location so we know which cities to grow. It sets no cookies, builds no profile, and can't follow you across other sites.
- Basic server logs. Because the site is self-hosted, our server briefly records standard request data — including IP addresses — to keep things running and secure. We keep these logs short and don't use them to identify or track you.
What we don't collect
- No accounts, no passwords. There's nothing to log into.
- No analytics cookies, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers following you around the web.
- No selling or renting of personal data. Ever.
Cookies & affiliate links
We don't use cookies to run the site or to measure traffic — our analytics are cookie-free.
The one cookie you might pick up isn't ours, and isn't set until you act on it: when you click through to Booking.com, their affiliate system sets its own cookie so a booking can be credited to us — see our Affiliate Disclosure. That cookie is governed by Booking.com's privacy policy, not ours, it's only set when you choose to click out, and it never changes the price you pay.
Where your data lives
realbreakfast is self-hosted on our own hardware in Australia. Uploaded photos are stored locally on that server using Supabase — they don't sit on anyone else's cloud. Traffic to the site is routed through Cloudflare, so some standard request data passes through its global network outside Australia, but your photos stay on our hardware here. We don't hand your data to anyone else.
Who runs this
realbreakfast is an independent project operated by an individual based in Australia. It isn't a company you hold an account with — just a small archive run by a real person. Questions, requests, or anything privacy-related: [email protected].
Your rights
- Removal, anytime. Email us and we'll take down any photo you uploaded — no questions, no friction.
- Access & correction. Ask what we hold that's tied to a contribution and we'll tell you, or fix it.
- Because we don't run accounts, the fastest way to reach us about your data is the email above. Wherever you live — including the EU and UK — we'll honour these requests the same way.
Retention & children
Published photos stay in the archive until you or the hotel ask us to remove them. Analytics and server logs are kept in aggregate or short-term only. realbreakfast is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update the date in the sidebar. Material changes will be noted clearly on this page.
